Ladies, we have to stop with the slut shaming. Have we learned nothing from "Mean Girls"?
Once we embrace our fellow woman's sexuality, we will learn not to judge their actions as we hope to not be judged by our own. Basically think "point one finger and you'll have three pointing back at you". Gender roles play heavily into slut shaming; we see this is not an issue between males. However, men will slut shame women. This is seen as Kanye voiced his opinions on Amber Rose.
Kanye West used to date Amber Rose and is currently married to Kim Kardashian. Both of these women can be slut shamed if you look at their pasts. Amber Rose came from lower class and stripped to help support her family. Kim Kardashian comes from money but made her way into the lime light by débuting a sex tape with singer Ray J. While being involved with both women, Kanye views them and their sexuality in completely different lights. During his last The Breakfast Club interview, Kanye made these "humorous" remarks:
"If Kim had liked me the first time I wanted to be with her there would be no Amber Rose."
"It's very hard for a woman to want to be with someone that was with Amber Rose."
"I had to take like 30 showers before I got with Kim."
All these statements perpetuate that black woman are filthy and for fun. They are not worthy of a title of wife. They are second class to white women. The biggest issue with this occurrence is that black men attribute greatly to these ideologies. It's pathetic how many young men tweet " I ain't dating no black girl." They have been conditioned to find white woman virtuous. You hear it as Kanye speaks on his wife's past, saying (in paraphrase) that if she wants to get naked she can and her beauty is why she's famous. He brags on Kim getting naked while bashing Amber for doing the exact same thing, putting white women on a pedestal. This cannot continue to be the norm.
What is worse is that he finds himself to be "for the people", as he talked about how the nation is divided and there are racists. Kanye says he wants the people to be empowered. Well, Kanye if you want to be an advocate you need to be for people experiencing the most suffrage in America as well: black women. Instead of jumping to a stage to rant about Beyoncé deserving a Grammy how about having the decency to acknowledge your former half with respect? Or if not you need to ask Kim how many showers did she take after her former partners.
The double standard for white women and promoting promiscuity is outlandish and another way to push white superiority. It devalues the black woman and continues stigmas like single black moms, being the other woman and not being "pure" enough to be with a man, even of the same race.
Black men, do better. This is problematic only holds back the revolution. The demand of respect for black woman is lacking in every group and it will hinder the change we strive for. Open your eyes and be conscious of how you treat black women today. To say we were kings and queens and then call your sister a "hoe" only makes you a living contradiction.
